In May 2011, after securing financing, the film was given the green-light and filming began in early June 2011 in Vallejo and Sacramento.The film won the Silver Lion for Best Director and the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the 69th Venice International Film Festival.The Master will be release on September 14, 2012 by The Weinstein Company.
